Best trick just seems to be to start on the next project, get the next submission out the door; you never forget about the other ones you already have waiting for answers, but at least you have other things to focus on in the meanwhile.Rachel Haimowitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06006372617337483862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508393569905441472.post-86314221935968775912011-02-21T02:18:26.010-05:002011-02-21T02:18:26.010-05:00Yeah, I can see the no shiny internet thing really...Yeah, I can see the no shiny internet thing really helping out with the writing. Friggin' shiny anyway, big time suck for me.

lol, don't mind me with the excerpt "more please" thing, you know, I get a little excited. Book sounds awesome, lol, can't help it. =) Patience isn't a virtue I ever learned. It's a good way to cure yourself of compuslively checking NovelRank every four seconds ;-)

And yeah, LOL, hotties to come ;D Andrew #1 has some pics he'll be sending over, and Jo and Andrew #2 have the bulk of the rest. I don't actually think Steve photographed terribly well (that laughing smile just did not translate to a still medium), but the ladies were both gorgeous in the photos I saw of them.

More excerpts to come soon! I've gotten like 50 pages ahead, so I'll have some choice bits to share on days I have nothing else to say here :) Guest blogger stopping by tomorrow, but maybe another excerpt around Tue or Wed?

(And ZOMG yes, Flappy was very cute. We kept him. Alas, our room steward poached him on our second-to-last day *sniff*)Rachel Haimowitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06006372617337483862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508393569905441472.post-75551609295832550132011-02-21T01:48:47.164-05:002011-02-21T01:48:47.164-05:00Oh... and Flappy's cute!

What will it take for you to post the karaoke video?

This may call for some creativity on your part ;-) Or, tell ya what, if I ever sell 200 copies of my books in a single week on Amazon before Crescendo goes on sale, I'll post it. So, er, recommendation incentive? :-p

2. Can Kerrie and Steve see this post? (And was Kerrie cute too?)

Sure they can. I suggested Steve might not want to read it because I'd probably embarrass him, but I also asked everyone if it was okay for me to use their names and write about them before I actually did. I doubt any involved parties will be the least surprised by anything I've said here.

3. Do you love your new Brits more than me? (Answer wisely)

Um, er, of course not! *shifty-eyes* ;-p (You know I love you, dear!)

4. What IS a cummerbund?

It's that black band of fabric that goes around a guy's midriff when he wears a tux. A brief history, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cummerbund

5. Did you bite someone? If so,who?

Yes, and Steve. But I was gentle, and went through the shirt. Mostly he just had his hand where I was trying to put my head, and I did get him to move, so, success :D

6. Please tell me you guys went and did the titantic poses?

Haha NO.

7. Towel animals??? Any pics?

Flappy above. I don't think there were any other pics, though Kerrie has some totally awesome pics of a lobster and a bat that hopefully she'll send to me if she's reading this.

8. I'm seriously tempted to give you the $50...

I would not argue.

9.Yay flappy! Did you pay extra for this service?

No, it's just part of the American cruise culture; usually your room steward will make a different towel animal every night when he comes in for turn-down service. We only got four though, I think: a swan, a cobra, a monkey, and Flappy.

10. Can you post the flappy-making vid too?

Andrew ("Brooklyn") has it. If he sends it to me, I'll post it.

11. I <3 your blog!

\o/ I'm sure my blog loves you too ;-)Rachel Haimowitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06006372617337483862noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4508393569905441472.post-15288751238449942572011-02-20T19:26:48.897-05:002011-02-20T19:26:48.897-05:00Hi Andrew #1! You're right that Rube Goldberg-esque sculpture was awesome and hypnotic; I think I watched it for a good 15 minutes when I first saw it. Send me the karaoke video? What a gr...Hey, it's Brooklyn checking in here. What a great post to go with a great vacation! To fill out the narrative for your readers, most of the time Rachel was working I was sunning at the pool, going kayaking or zip-lining in the ports of call, and doing some work of my own (French translation). Though I'm not a fan of the big gaudy live entertainment you get on these ships (but boy, those figure skaters were good), the design and decor was unexpectedly tasteful and reflected a very appealing and eclectic sense of style. Some of the most impressive features I could add to Rachel's description:

*The bar over the outdoor mini-golf course held a hypnotic motion-sculpture in which an array of colored golf balls were knocked, catapulted, and otherwise whisked around by mechanical rods, levers, and chutes.

*Tucked away near the casino where Rachel cleaned up at poker was a nightclub called "The Chamber" with a medieval/gothic/tarot theme we loved. It didn't go as over-the-top with mock-spookiness as something like that could, and would probably have been an awesome hangout if three-quarters of the ship's guests weren't over 50 and more likely to do their socializing in the smoky cigar club.

*Possibly the most unexpected concept-design on the ship: The ice skating rink was "themed" around a sort of alternate history in which a scientist in the 1950s had invented a machine to create solid objects from thoughts and dreams; the entrance to the rink was decorated with faux museum displays and magazine covers spanning the ensuing decades. Way the hell far out.

There is indeed a partial video of Rachel doing "I Will Survive" karaoke. She was a lot better than me. Get those bribes in to her soon!andrewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13029949834376894062noreply@blogger.com
