Welcome to my little corner of the gay erotic romance universe . . . well, half of it, anyway. (You can find the other half at RachelHaimowitz.com.) This is the place to come for sneak previews of new projects, release information, and the occasional M/M book review. I'll also share thoughts on the industry on occasion, and I hope you'll come share yours in return.

Vampires, Hocky, and Blood & Bondage with Elizabeth Jewell

Greetings all! Today I'm welcoming Elizabeth Jewell to Fantasy Unbound to chat Vampires and a new flashfiction press. She'll also be giving away a free copy of her new book to one lucky commenter, so be sure to stop in and say hi.

As always, let's begin with a little blurb and cover for her new book, Blood and Bondage.

After decades of being “good” -- for vampires -- Alaric and his lover need more. When Seth brings home a pair of handcuffs, Alaric discovers he still needs it rough. Fortunately, so does his lover.

Sounds tasty, yeah? Let me turn the floor over to Elizabeth, who has some thoughts on vampires and an excerpt of Blood & Bondage beneath the jump.

A long time ago, I used to be terrified of vampires. I remember when I was ten years old or so, I watched the original Dracula on TV and stayed up half the night terrified something awful was going to happen to me. (I was an anxious child. But it’s okay—I’m on medication now…)

Then I discovered Anne Rice. I discovered her through Sting, who wrote a song called “Moon Over Bourbon Street,” inspired by Interview with the Vampire, for his first solo album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles. I figured if Sting was writing a song about one of her books, she must be pretty cool, so I read Interview with the Vampire. The rest is history.

My love affair with Rice’s vampires has since waned considerably, but the obsession with vampires in general has remained. Most of the erotic romance novels I’ve written feature vampires in some way or another, from the urban fantasy style vamps of the Dark Callings series to the futuristic vampires in the Solar Flare series, both from Changeling Press (changelingpress.com).

My latest story also features vampires. Called Blood & Bondage, it’s available now through Razor’s Edge Press (razorsedgepress.com).

Razor’s Edge is a new venture from Changeling, featuring single session erotic short stories. No romance is necessary—just kink and, well, kink. Blood & Bondage features two vamps who’ve been together for a very long time, trying to be good vampires, who suddenly realize they want to be bad when one of them brings home a pair of handcuffs.

Razor’s Edge has been fun to write for. It’s a nice change of pace from having to work out those pesky relationships and making sure everybody has a happy ending. It’s a chance to jump into a quick scenario and make it as naughty as you like—or even naughtier.

My next story for Razor, which doesn't have a release date yet, is Puck You. If anything, this story is even naughtier than Blood & Bondage, and it was a hoot to write. I sat down one morning with a pen and a notebook and had the whole story written by that evening. It’s about a pair of professional hockey players who take their aggression into the locker rooms, where it takes a slightly different form than it does on the ice.

And yes, there’s a story about how I got interested in hockey, but I’ll save that for another time. Let’s just say it has nothing to do with Sting.

I hope you’ll check out some of my stories. Find updates and news at Elizabeth-jewell.com, or elizabethjewell.blogspot.com.

 Blood & Bondage Excerpt

Seth had acquired a pair of handcuffs. Alaric didn’t know how, or where, but that wasn’t the important question. He eyed Seth evaluatingly as Seth stood there dangling the cuffs from one finger, a smirk curling across his mouth.
“You using them on me?” Alaric asked.
“No.” Seth tossed the cuffs nonchalantly to his Sire. “You’re using them on me.”
Alaric caught the cuffs. They were cold, real metal, not lightweight fake plastic. Seth meant business.
He held his hands out to Alaric, wrists side-by-side. He really meant business.
“Now,” he said.
Hefting the cuffs, Alaric studied Seth’s face. Seth looked serious. Alaric had no reason to believe he wasn’t serious. He frowned.
“Fine, then.” He pointed. “There.”
Seth hesitated. Alaric wondered if this was another of those exercises where Seth refused to do as he was told, just to see if he could without being beaten or set on fire. There had been a time when Alaric would have done just that, but that was a long time ago.
After a moment, Seth went to the place Alaric had indicated, next to the footboard, and dropped to his knees, his back to the bed.
“Shirt off,” said Alaric. Seth shucked his black T-shirt, stripping it off over his head. Alaric watched. He was lean, cut, the muscles of his back and abdomen clearly defined. Wiry, coiled strength that could challenge even Alaric’s solid bulk. Heat pooled in Alaric’s groin, pulsing. His cock pressed against the zipper of his trousers.
He knew what was happening here. It was another step along a path Seth had set the first time he’d come to Alaric’s bed. Reconstructive therapy. Something like that. He was remaking his relationship with Alaric, replacing everything that had happened with Alaric -- the brutality, the humiliation, the pain -- with what Alaric had to give him. Alaric was generally happy to oblige --he’d always enjoyed taking advantage of Seth’s cleanly constructed body -- but this was new. Alaric knew what Seth wanted, but he wasn’t completely sure he could do it. Not to Seth’s specifications.
Seth was looking up at him, eyebrows lifted, an interrogative and slightly impatient look in his sapphire eyes. Alaric took a step forward.
“Pants, too. Now, boy.”
Seth unbuckled his belt. His eyes locked to Alaric’s, attention firm and unwavering, a challenge glinting in his eyes. He had looked at Alaric that way long ago, when things had been different, but with more defiance. Daring his Sire to break him. Now, Alaric thought, he dared just the opposite. Dared Alaric to walk this path again, this path of pain and blood, but with different intent. Alaric wasn’t sure he was up to it.
